Inexpensive Radon measurement with ALTRAC LD Radon Exposimeter

The passive Radon Exposimeter LD is particularly suitable for the long-term determination of radon concentrations in your indoor spaces. These radon dosimeters are absolutely insusceptible to short-term radon fluctuations and thus provide reliable long-term values. They can be set up easily and inconspicuously in living and working rooms.

Many advantages at a glance

  • Easy handling
  • Laboratory evaluation included
  • Legally recognised exposimeter (important for organisations and companies, but also for private users such as landlords or tenants)
  • Relevant values after 3 to 12 months
  • Tried and tested technology (nuclear track measurement method)

Tips for measuring radon concentration

The load cells can be set up in different durations. If you have planned a shorter measuring period, it should be at least 2-3 months and preferably during the heating period (October to April). This is because we ventilate more often in the summer months, so the measurements are more meaningful in winter. Ideally, the measurement period should be 6, preferably 12 months, as this way seasonal fluctuations can also be recorded.

For measurements in single-family houses, at least two exposimeters are recommended, which are placed in the lower rooms (ground floor) that you use most often (usually living room, bedroom or study). If there are rooms in the basement that you use more often or live in for a longer period of time, measurements should also be taken there.

How passive radon exposimeters work

The load cells work according to the principles of the nuclear track measurement method (DIN 25706-1). The actual detector - a plastic film of polycarbonate foil (about 1 to 10 cm² in size and about 0.1 to 1 mm thick) - is located inside the exposimeter. The air containing radon gas diffuses through the housing into the measuring chamber; however, dust, moisture and radon derivatives are retained. The sufficiently high diffusion resistance also prevents the thoron (220Rn; half-life: approx. 56 seconds) from entering the measuring chamber. The radon then decays in the measuring chamber, emitting alpha particles, into its short-lived derivatives, which are also alpha emitters. The alpha particles leave traces in the film, which are recorded and evaluated in the laboratory.

Evaluation

After completion of your measurement, send the passive radon exposimeter back to the certified measurement laboratory. After about 20 days you will receive your personal radon report. The costs for the evaluation and the costs for the radon report are already included in the sales price. You only have to pay the shipping costs to the laboratory.

Scope of delivery

  • The number of ordered radon dosimeters in a radon-tight package
  • Easy to understand measuring instructions
  • Analysis as well as a report on the results from the accredited radon test laboratory ALTRAC

Please note: The price refers to 1 can. The illustration with two cans is for illustration purposes only.

Note on the evaluation of the exposimeters

  • Please send your exposimeters in their original packaging including the measuring protocol directly to the ALTRAC test laboratory. You will find the address on the enclosed measurement report.
  • For organisational reasons, you will not receive an acknowledgement of receipt from the test laboratory.
  • The evaluation of the exposimeters can take 3 to 4 weeks, depending on the volume.
  • All exposimeters are stored in a cool and radon-safe place until evaluation, so that your measurement results are not falsified.
  • Your results report, including a recommendation based on your measurement data, will be sent to the email address you provided when you placed your order.
